FAQ
Why Should I get a massage?
The fact that it feels wonderful is a great reason in itself.
You don’t need to wait until you are stressed or injured.
Massage works wonders as preventive care for a person's body and mind.
However if you need a more scientific reason to get a massage, here
are just a few; massage relieves stress and fatigue, assist in getting
rid of toxins, improves circulation of the blood and lymph, increases
nutrition to the cell and skin, reduces edema, relieves joint and
muscular aches and pain and induces deep relaxation. A regular massage
is a wonderful way to boost emotional and physical wellbeing.
I have never had a massage. What should
I expect?
When you arrive you will be given a confidential intake form with some
general health questions to complete. This is necessary to
let your therapist know what your massage needs are and whether you
have any conditions that may make massage inadvisable. This
only takes a few moments and will not shorten the length of your
massage.
You will be taken to the treatment room that has
been designed with your comfort and relaxation in mind. During
this time you may ask any questions you have about the massage session
or express any concerns that haven't been addressed. Your therapist
will leave the room to give you privacy to undress.
Please turn off your cell phone or pagers in order
avoid any interruptions and make your session more relaxing.
After you undress, relax on the table and cover yourself with the
top sheet and blanket.
Most people undress completely, however, you may disrobe to the degree
you are comfortable. You will be properly covered with a sheet
during the entire session, and only the area the therapist is working
on will be uncovered. Your therapist will politely knock before
entering the room to make sure you are ready.
Remember this is your time! Feel free to ask for a neck support,
a bolster under your knees, a change of music or an adjustment in the
temperature of the room. During the massage the therapist may
use several types of modalities to fit your needs. If at any
time during your session you need the therapist to adjust the amount
of pressure or technique used, just let her know. When your session
is complete, the therapist will thank you and leave the room. You
may feel a little lightheaded after your session, therefore you should
allow yourself a few moments to get up slowly and dress. After
you have dressed, you will meet the therapist at the front desk to
pay for your session and rebook your next appointment.
When should I arrive?
Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment time so you have
time to check in, fill out paper work and undress for your treatment.
Your session may be shortened if you are late.
What parts will you massage?
Thirty minute sessions usually addresses the upper body and sessions
of sixty minutes or longer is generally full body. You and
your therapist can discuss what your needs are and determine what
parts of your body require massage. A typical full body will
include your scalp, face, neck, shoulders, arms, hands, legs, feet,
gluteus area and back. If there are any parts that you do not want
massaged, let the therapist know. At no time will you be touched
on or near your genitals (male & female) or your breasts (female). All
massages at Ambiance Massage and Spa are absolutely non-sexual. We
have a zero tolerance policy and sessions will be immediately ended
for ANY inappropriate behavior (verbal or action).
What should I do during the massage?
Make yourself comfortable. The therapist may gently move you
or ask you to move if needed throughout the session. You may
want to just concentrate on your breathing, close your eyes and completely
relax. If you prefer, you may talk or ask question about your
massage. This time is about meeting your needs. The therapist
will follow your lead.
Does massage hurt?
Massage is designed to feel good. However, you may have areas
that are tight and have knots. When these areas are massaged
you may experience some discomfort, but it should never be intolerable. Each
person has different thresholds of pain. Pressure that is not
deep enough for some may be too deep for others. It is
important to communicate with your therapist. If you experience
pain during the massage, let the therapist know and she will adjust
the pressure according to your limits.
Is it okay to tip? Are tips expected?
Tips are gratefully accepted, never expected. The same excellent
service is provided to everyone regardless.
What should I expect after massage?
You should feel more relax and renewed. You may notice relief
from chronic aches and pain. Some people may feel a little drowsy
initially, and then feel more energized and alert shortly afterwards.
Since toxins are released from the muscle tissue, it is important that
you drink plenty of water prior to and after your massage session. The
day following your massage you may experience muscle soreness like
you would after a physical workout. Drinking plenty of water
can prevent this.
